A streaming video I want to use with my class lacks captions or audio descriptions. What can I do?

Most titles in the Academic Video Online database include captions, while a small number offer audio description (AD).

To find videos that have AD, search in the database for "audio description", including the quotation marks. If you're not sure what captions and AD are, see Captions, Transcripts, and Audio Descriptions from WebAIM.

AACC faculty who wish to use a video that lacks either of these features should contact the library, and we'll relay the remediation request to the vendor. The vendor estimates a 3-week turnaround to make videos accessible, but we recommend reaching out earlier for the best chance of having content ready when you need it for your class.

Note: If you are not a faculty member and find any database content inaccessible to you, please let us know! Use our chat service or send a detailed description of the problem to truxal@aacc.libanswers.com. To help us address the issue, please include a direct link to the specific item you need.

Remediation request form

If the form does not load, please email Michelle Robertson (mmrobertson@aacc.edu) from your college email address and include the following:

  • video title;
  • URL (permalink);
  • features needed (audio description, captions, or both); and,
  • date you need the video.
