I work at AACC and want to lend equipment. Can the library help? Last updated: Jun 10, 2025 Views: 0
What can the library do?
- Create detailed catalog and item records (inventory)
- Manage loan of equipment to students
- Create and collect user agreements or contracts
- Bill borrowers for lost or damaged equipment (payments will be deposited to the owning department)
- Collect usage statistics
- Access student course schedules to determine eligibility to borrow, if required
- Provide laptops and tablets to IIT for maintenance and updates
- Circulate items during all normal library operating hours
What does the library not do?
- Repair damaged equipment
- Purchase replacements for lost or damaged equipment
- Determine the amount of a bill for replacement or repair
- Provide carrying cases or disposable parts (batteries, cleaning wipes, etc.)
- Advertise resources only available to specific users
- Report information about individual borrowers' activities, unless:
- operationally necessary, e.g., department uses a referral system to identify eligible borrowers for a limited number of items; or,
- authorized by the borrower, e.g., the borrower CCs their professor in an email to the circulation desk regarding their loan
- Configure or update computer equipment
- Computer equipment must be maintained by the college's IIT division and have an asset tag number. Please ensure you have contacted the Technical Service Desk before reaching out to the library.
- Extend or alter library operating hours to accommodate pickup and return
Will the library store our equipment indefinitely?
No. The library has limited storage space, so we reserve the right to withdraw and return equipment that is scarcely or never used.
What will the loan period be?
The library has several standard loan periods, from 3 hours (shortest possible) to a full semester (longest possible). Let us know what makes the most sense for your needs and we'll suggest the closest match.
What is the turnaround time for my equipment to be ready for checkout?
It varies based on the item/s, but staff from both the cataloging and circulation departments are involved, so please allow enough lead time for us to complete our work. (In other words, don't expect items dropped off on Friday to be ready for checkout on Monday!) If this is your first time placing equipment in the library, please allow a minimum of three weeks' notice.
What about items for employee use?
Typically, equipment for faculty and staff use is managed by IIT or the owning department. However, if there's a reason the library makes more sense, please let us know.
How do I learn more?
Please contact the Circulation Desk at circdesk@aacc.edu or 410-777-2238.
