I have a Chromebook from my high school. Do I need to get an AACC laptop, too?

In most cases, no, your Chromebook should work for all AACC coursework.

  • Testing: as of September 2025, AACPS-issued Chromebooks should allow you to access Respondus LockDown Browser for virtual testing.
  • Specialty course software: the college uses Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) to provide access to specialty software. You can use AVD through a web browser, even if you can't install the app on your device.

However, there may be other courses for which your school-issued Chromebook won't work. Before requesting a laptop:

  • Contact your AACC professor, your school's tech support, and/or AACC's Technical Service Desk to determine if using another laptop is the only solution to the problem.
  • Consider using desktop computers in the library or at Arundel Mills for short-term needs. Specialty software is provided in the TLC labs, while library computers have more standard software packages.
    • If your Chromebook doesn't work for a single assignment or other short-term need, this may be an easier solution than borrowing an AACC laptop.

Dual-enrolled students who need an AACC laptop are welcome to request one. As supply is limited, however, we ask that you first take steps to confirm that your existing resources will not meet your need. (Remember that, by borrowing an AACC laptop, you are also assuming additional financial risk as you will be responsible for damage or loss.)
